An urban ghost story…..
Los Angeles 2004. There are two main characters. A man, 30-something and a woman, twenty-something.
The man fixes roofs. The womanis his girlfriend, just out of college. When the man is killed in a convenience story robbery, his girlfriend cremates him and has his ashes scattered. Then she takes over his roofing business.
Unfortunately for the man, even
though he is dead, he is still on earth after a fashion. He finds
that he is part of a group of ghosts, all killed on the same day, who
must combine forces to create the next big earthquake in LA. By
releasing the kinetic energy of the earth, they can release their souls
to heaven.
As the woman learns the roofing
business she is privy to the homes of people all over LA. (She has
to go inside to see where the leak is before she goes on the roof to
find the hole). Each time her boyfriend makes a small earthquake,
more roofs break and work increases. She sees inside all the
personal lives of people from Compton to Beverly Hills.
While the woman falls back in love
with an old boyfriend, her current boyfriend befriends one of the women
ghosts.
The woman’s friends all live in an
old house that used to be used by fans of the Grateful Dead as they
followed the band on it’s tours around the country. They decided
to have a party.
Fatefully, the night of the party is
also the same night that the big earthquake finally happens.
The city looses power and a lot of
stuff falls apart, but the man’s soul is released and the girlfriend is
able to move on.
